A Changing World
Debt in a not so changing world. Everything around us changes so fast, science and technology, breakthroughs in medicine and one of the fastest and largest areas of interest today is information technology. But as fast as we evolve in areas that change us and bring us together, the credit that we all need in one form or another to bring about these wondrous leaps forward can easily turn to debt. The reasons for the lender changing the tag above your name from in ” in credit ” to ” in debt ” really doesn’t matter, but what does matter is the way the holders of the purse strings deal with us, the people who attract us with the glamorous and glittering adverts showing the change of life, how interesting and attractive we can become, change…….no glam or glitter, no more pleasantries……we find that we are now dealing with a system that hasn’t changed for a century. We are now faced with demands with no real help or assistance, the one single feeling that most would apply is that of injustice………..Our world is changing, shouldn’t theirs?

Hi Nigel
I get totally get what you are saying there, I have been on the end of the phone dealing with someone being really rude about missing a couple of payments to one of my cards, after I came off the phone I couldn’t believe just how bad I felt, the call left me feeling like a criminal as it was explained that if I did not make a payment the debt will be passed to debt collectors who will visit my home, not something I want. At the age of 47, a working girl all of my life, I have paid everything on time without fail and this one instance of missing payments due to illness led to my credit facility becoming a debt. I have paid the arrears and still use my card but I cannot understand how in just a short time I went from a good client to becoming a liability. Credit to debt in just one phone call.
By the way, love your blog, hope to read more in the future.
Hi there
I can see what you mean and I really do feel for anyone that is in debt but I am not sure about creditors having to react any differently than they have done in the past. I must stress that I am not in debt and have not experienced this other side of my creditors that people say exists.
What do people expect? When you take a credit card out you sign a set of terms and conditions to say that you agree to pay the borrowed money back with Interest and on time…….Lets reverse this, how would we react if anyone of us lent money and the borrower decided to stop paying it back. I would probably freak out, contact a solicitor and use any legal means at my disposal to get the money back.
I am sorry to say that although I can appreciate was you have said, I cannot agree with you.
Well written and hope your blog does well.
