Can I Get My Debt Written Off?

Posted by Nigel on Mar 3, 2010 in Writing Off Debt |

Write debt offI get contacted about getting debts written off all the time and all I can say is “WHY”. Should anyone that borrows money have the right to just get it written off, don’t we agree to repay any money borrowed? didn’t we all have the intention of paying borrowed money back? If not, surely this constitutes fraud.

Call me old fashioned but I still can’t subscribe to the point of view

    Hey there

why shouldnt we be able to get our debts written off,i have looked it up on the internet and there are lots of companies willing to do it for me, they will charge me but that’s ok. The Banks having treated us like crap and make millions out of us, the websites say that if they have made a mistake on the contract then i wont have to pay the loan back. I am going back to sign up today.

    Nice blog there nige.

    Hi TJ

To be honest, I cant argue your point, there must be a an element of fairness about it. If you were to make a genuine mistake by not having enough money in your bank account and a standing order goes out, you will get a penalty charge which can be between £12.50 and £35.00 so yes, if they make a genuine mistake on your contract why shouldn’t they be penalised for it. The law is there to protect both the creditor and their clients, it cannot be a one way street.

Surely it’s one thing realising that there is a mistake on the contract and taking the creditor to task about it, and deciding that you do not want to repay money that has been borrowed on credit cards or loans and then finding away to get out of it. If someone was to do that to any one of us, wouldn’t we be shouting from the roof tops that they are trying to steal meney from us?

I just don’t get it. I have have a load of debt that yes, i did spend somebody else’s money and i did accept the terms and conditions from my bank and various credit card companies but if there is a company that is saying “Write your debt off – No win no fee” what have i got to loose. If there is a loop hole in the law then shouldn’t we all jump on the band wagon and get rid of the debt. I am currently on a debt management plan and it is going to take years for me to pay my debts off so I signed up yesterday to see what they can do.

I would love to get my debts written off, both me and my husband are on debt management with two separate companies (long story) and it is going to take years to get them paid off. I don’t care about the rights and wrongs as my bank wouldn’t give a flying stuff about me. I am going to check this out later when i get home.

    Thanks guys
